Upcoming Workshops

15th Annual ALMS Conference and Workshop 2007
- Water, Air and Land: Leadership Towards Improved Watershed Management

Message from the Chair:

Our annual workshop is returning home to the Edmonton area for the first time in several years.  The workshop will be help in the Sherwood Park Best Western (right next to Millennium Place) allowing easy access to the workshop for residents of the Edmonton area as well as east-central Alberta.  Also, we are very happy to be partnering with the Beaver Hills Initiative (BHI), a multi-jurisdiction partnership of all levels of government, industry and ENGO’s committed to the conservation of the natural resources of the area while including the balance of social and economic factors of development.

Our theme this year is Proactive Environmental Resource Conservation.  As usual, we will be showcasing several experts on local watershed issues, but we will also be focusing on the particular challenges affecting lands surrounding industrial development in the area.  Much of the area surrounding Sherwood Park and neighboring municipalities in the Beaver hills Cooking Lake Moraine are very important to the future economical well-being of Alberta and a significant portion of the workshop will be devoted to this theme.

Other highlights of this years workshop will include several ALMS favorites, including a ‘meet and greet’ wine and cheese September 27th, a sumptuous banquet on the evening of the 28th, and the ever popular local tour also on the 27th.  For the tour we will be showcasing the Beaver hills/Cooking Lake Moraine, sure to be teeming with life after a beautiful Alberta summer.  Also, ever on the lookout for emerging issues, ALMS will be hosting an industry ‘panel discussion’ featuring trend setting local and not-so local examples of how industry is reducing their impact on our shared water resources.  This is a first for an ALMS workshop and we are very excited on seeing the results.

So as you can see, this years ALMS/BHI Conference and workshop promises to be a very exciting event.

Hope to see you there!

What to expect at our Workshops?

Each year we hold a workshop in a new location with a unique theme. You will hear talks from leading water experts on various topics that relate to the workshop's focus. We also host an entertaining banquet each year with guest speakers and a delicious feast. Our workshops are an opportunity to meet other like-minded people who are interested in lake and watershed management. We strive to make our workshops as affordable as possible and fundraise each year to offset ticket prices.
